Abused

I heard the slap from my room in the basement.
I felt the pain.
I thought the silence was heaven sent,
But knew it would not remain.
...
Footsteps on the stairs ascending,
Aggressor slinks away.
No sound after that, no offending words.
Nothing felt enough to say.
...
My doorknob turned, it was my fingers turning,
Surprise, my main emotion.
The anger inside and my body was burning.
Repressed but compelling my motion.
...
Toes carpet stealth cold practiced silence.
I found my way to the place.
A silhouette sitting against the moon's light,
Massaging the mark on his face.
...
My mother my father myself and our pain.
Existence seems so grim.
With nothing to lose and nothing to gain,
She takes it all out on him.
...
Approach not encroach place a hand on his shoulder
I don't say it's okay.
The night is so cold but advice can be colder
So I quietly say
"I'm here for you."
