The kitchen was covered in dirt and dust and bits of root from unknown plants beneath the house. From where she stood, Alice could make out several worms, squirming as they tried to understand their new surroundings. Curled pill bugs and disgruntled crickets scrabbled and hopped about the checkered floor, searching for the hole from whence they had been thrown.
The hole in question was in the center of the room, and it looked like something had exploded from beneath the tile floor. The hole was bigger than those of the local critters, but not big enough for a normal human... Well, maybe....?
Alice crept toward it, kneeling at the edge of the shattered flooring.
From here, the hole descended into darkness and mystery.
From here, it looked perfectly Alice-sized.
