8:00 AM, Australia

Good morning! What’s for breakfast?

God. Why do you care so much about food? Can’t you just spend some quality time with your girlfriend for once?

I noticed the twinkle in her eye when she said that. I loved her so much, I never wanted to leave her, even for just one second.

Hey Amy!

Yeah?

Let’s go to the beach!

Kay! Be right there! I just have to get ready!

Every weekend, she and I would go to the beach and relax. Sitting in the warm sun of Australia, I would hold her hand in mine and tell her how much I loved her. She would grin and laugh at my jokes even though I knew she thought they weren’t funny. That’s the kind of girlfriend she is.

I’m ready!

Good! Me too!

Did you put on sunscreen?

No.

Well then go put some on!

Geez... mom!

Hey! Don’t call me that. I’m just concerned, you should be grateful!

It’s fine. I’ll put some on at the beach.

We walked down to the beach and watched everyone having fun in the sand. I reached out to her face and kissed her on the cheek. I loved the way her freckles dotted her face.

It’s really hot. I think I’m gonna go for a quick swim. Wanna come?

I’m good, I just wanna relax for a bit then I might join you after.

Kay! I’ll be right back!

I watched as she ran down the sand into the water, splashing the substance everywhere. I laughed at her and she looked back, smiling. I saw her walk in deeper. Just then I noticed a sign.

Amy! Get out of the water! Now!

What?!

Get out of the water!

Why?

I saw her face freeze and look down. It couldn't be. She was too young. She started to fall into the water. I ran as fast as I could. She fell. I found her. She had a blank expression on her face. I carried her to the shore and called 112 (911 for Australia).

Amy? Are you awake yet? Please Amy, come back!

Alex? Is that you?

Amy! You’re okay!

Where am I?

You’re in the hospital. You’re going to be okay.

Tears started streaming down her face.

It really hurts.

I know it does, but you have to be strong, just like you always are.

I can’t be strong this time. I can’t bear the pain.

Just then, A doctor walked in. He called me to the corner.

Sir, what relation do you have with this young woman?

I’m her boyfriend, why?

She was stung by an irukandji jellyfish, they are extremely deadly and fatal.

She is going to survive though, right?

I’m sorry sir, she has gotten to the severe stage of coma. She could die at any second.

This time, tears started streaming down my face.

I can’t lose her, Not again.

Author Notes: Please tell me your thoughts! I hope you liked it! It's kind of terrible but, whatever. I know there are a lot of grammatical errors, but I am working on it! In this short story, I actually did some research and read a book about Irukandji jellyfish. They are really interesting. Here is a link to a website that tells you all about Irukandji jellyfish: https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/news/2018/04/irukandji-jellyfish-everything-you-need-to-know/ . Have fun researching!
