Climbing Everest is

An adventure beyond

The human limit

First there is

The Khumbu Icefall

A maze of crevasses

With bottomless depths

Then comes the Western Cwm

A glacial valley

Surrounded on all sides

By mighty walls

At the head of the Cwm

Dominates the Lhotse face

A ferocious wall

Of chilling blue ice

Then there’s the South Col

A vast plateau

Desolate and barren

Swept by the wind

Above the Col

Is the southeast ridge

Rising up high

To the South Summit

Beyond the South Summit

Is the corniced ridge

With cliffs on either side

Leading to the final peak

Finally there’s the summit

The final destination

Where one can go no higher
