Atop a Balcony

By Anthony E

I saw her atop a balcony

Her smile, soft as a feather

Leaning on the railing

Holding the planet together

I admired as the sun set

At which it then occurred

The beauty of a setting sun

Was nothing next to her

I took a sip of liquid courage

I took a step towards fate

She exists in my memory

For I took a step too late

What could of been, might have been

My soul will never know

To the beauty on the balcony

Oh, I loved you so!

Author Notes: A poem about missed opportunites.
