A Cacophony of Noise

By NobodyImportant

Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Until all the world is silent.

The world is taunting, screaming,
Baying for blood and drama.
Loyalties are shifting and heaving,
As everyone howls out their trauma.
Death walks ceaseless through the night, it seems
Unchecked, careless, and unquestioned
Thoughts of blood and injustice haunt my dreams,
And my mind is drowning in questions.
Everyone has answers and their very own truth,
A truth so certain they would kill for it.
Everyone hawking it like merchants at a booth,
Begging others to believe it.

Inhale,
Exhale,
Until the world is no longer violent.

There is so much pain and rage boiling over,
So much injustice unanswered.
So many causes worth dying for,
So many people with answers.
I can barely keep my eyes from closing,
So tired of waiting for the clamor to cease.
I can no longer tell who's winning or losing,
I can no longer tell what scent floats upon the breeze.
Is it blood or fear?
Death or pain?
I cannot begin to decipher what I hear,
Perhaps the broken cries of the slain?

In,
Out,
Until everything is quiet.

I never understood the phrase:
If a tree falls in a forest….
Yet now I feel I hear it crash a million different ways.
I never thought to question:
This is simply the way it is…
Yet now I hear a million voices pointing a different direction.
I cannot claim to know what’s right,
I only know that somehow; in some way,
I, an unimportant, silent voice, must fight.
