Clean From the World

By Amber Jones

I hold her close to my chest

And clutch her in my hands

I protect her from the

Storm and hope she withstands.

My precious little daisy

Is the only thing unchanged

Among a world of concrete

She’s the beauty that remained.

I’ve considered her simple

Pure white delicate petals

The way she stands out when

They say she isn’t special.

But she remains unstained

And clean from the world around

When they seek to blemish

And uproot her good ground.

I know she’s beautiful

Just the way that she is

So that’s why I guard her

And hold her against my ribs.
