CREVASSES

By hercules

Crevasses are deep, dark, fearful, formidable places. They are one of a climber’s worst nightmares.

I however, perceive non-glacial crevasses in another light. They are fearful places yes, but in those deep labyrinths of ice, which they lead to, there are holes, which I imagine to be bottomless. I envision those holes leading to greater labyrinths and caves – caves right inside the mountains.

I also imagine that they eventually lead to systems of vast caverns and tunnels, running beneath the mountains and deep down into the Earth.

Author Notes: Touching the Void inspired me to write this. The image, which I included shows the climber, Joe Simpson descending into a crevasse, which I suspect literally to be bottomless.
