I WAKE UP FROM my sleep. My mother gets up from beside me. “Did you have a nice night?â€
I smile and whisper with a low voice, “I did.†Her long brown hair falls in front of her emerald eyes. She is wearing the same nightgown as me. It’s blue with darker polka dots and a lace trim. It feels like a hospital gown, the scratchy texture is cheap and thin. I barely feel covered. She looks amazing in it, though.
She has high cheekbones and a well manicured style. My mother draws closer to me and gives me a soft kiss on my forehead. I can see every detail of her dewy complexion. She whispers something to me.
“Don’t trust them.â€
I wake up in the middle of the night. I’m in a cold sweat. My eyes are big and all the girls in the room look at me in their beds.
I am still in shock.
I haven’t seen my mother in years.
