Dim Your Lights

If you walk the coast
You’ll find my lighthouse,
But don’t be alarmed if
You find the lights out.
If you try to get in
Don’t be upset if you
Find the doors locked up tight
It’s because I withdrew.
Now, if you get inside
Don’t panic when you find
Me sitting in my chair
Long since lost in my mind.
I found that no one needed me;
No ships sailed past my shore,
No soul came searching for me,
And no one knocked at my door.
I became consumed by it--
The loneliness inside;
The pain that crept into
My chest where it now resides.
I was once that bright light
And the door wide open.
Now, I no longer shine
And my hinges are broken.
That’s what it does to you
Devours you over time,
Makes you feel all alone,
And like you’re confined.
Slowly, you begin to
Shut your doors and dim the
Lights, but by feeding it,
Lonely is what you’ve become.
