Drive By's and Die By's
By Anthony E
There was a drive by shooting on 83rd street
How do I know, I was in the back seat
Had I known I would've gotten out of the car
Now my conscience is stifled in a glass jar
I can't tell anyone, I can't express
I can't tell authorities, I can't confess
My eyes bleed from the inside, I try to feel the pain
Blank stare, do I care, for the young person slain
When your time is up, it's your time to go, hear the tick tock
But a gun, a bullet and a target can speed up the clock
Drive By's, Die By's, sad city streets don't matter the weather
See the stop sign, when is it gonna stop sign, pray for better
Author Notes: So far in Chicago in 2021: A total of 677 adolescents and children were shot at, among whom 429 (63 percent) had gunshot wounds and 68 (10.1 percent) died from their injuries.
