fabulous

Has anyone ever told you you’re fabulous?

It’s the kind of fabulous

When a black cat crosses the street

And everyone shies away,

Scared,

And the cat keeps cruising,

Tail held high

Like the proud mast of a sinking ship,

With more guts than the craziest pirate.

You’re unafraid to be yourself

You just put yourself out there

Splashing your personality all over the place

Until you’re leaving beautiful murals behind you,

Multicolored paint in your boot prints

And at the same time,

You hide your face

You think you’re not good enough

You think you’ll never be loved

And I just want to grab you

By the shoulders

And shake you slightly and show you

All of the reasons why you’re amazing just the way you are.

You are broken, but you’re beautiful

You’ve known hurt, but you’re hopeful

When sitting in a chair all day is killing you,

You still find the strength to get up in the morning.

And I wish I could make you see

How much you brighten this world,

But by the time I try to speak,

You’re gone

Your black tail flicking around the corner.
