F<LIGHT>

By Matt Decker

Tell me again

Why of course can't I fly?

I was born to believe

The universe is mine.

<°>

"Try for the sky,

Reach for the stars.

These lessons are expressing

the essence of who you are."

<°>

Tho' given so long ago

Do these words no longer hold?

<°>

As the years have flown

Fears sown have grown

Yet my heart still beats dreams

These hands have never owned.

<°>

Night after day

Through fight and fray

Gravity grabs at me

Limits laugh at me.

<°>

Before this is over

and all goes under

I wish to dance

upon the clouds

and to the thunder.

<°>

But how can I feel

anything but down

struggling to get up

up off the ground?

<°>

Tho' I stretch these

wings

the one and only

thing

taking off is my

dream.

<°>

One thing was done

another spoken

and now my wings

seem to be broken.

<°>

I need a light

to spark this

darkness

lest I succumb

and become some

carcass.

<°>

A ray

A beam

even a glimmer

helps me cope

with hope

gone dimmer.

<°>

Suddenly

something happens

to me.

Lightning bolt and

strike!

I feel the jolt.

Will I bolt?

No.

I will use the Light

for flight.
