Ghost of Anxiety

By Rich Powell

I'm followed by an old ghost,
They call it anxiety,
It haunts me more than most,
Shrouding my world in uncertainty.

Days drag on and I become a recluse,
Hidden away from my fears,
Burdened by years of misuse,
Daily life passes by and turns into years.

A hardened exterior portrays a cool mask,
Underneath it's a different story,
For living with anxiety is no easy task,
One's existence becomes blurry.

It is one persistent spectre,
But there is a way to see it off,
Days will become better,
Just be yourself and laugh.

Stand up and be who you want to be,
Don't let the ghost of anxiety be your destiny,
Give a one finger salute to 'we',
Declare war on fear and defeat the enemy,
From this day forth, it is only 'me'.
