Hold Me Bound
By Amber Jones
I see her in the dusk
In the space between stars
A girl who roams free and
Isn’t held behind bars.
I long to be unbound
And to walk in her shoes;
To take a day for me
And finally just choose.
I strive to be that girl,
But I can’t move from here
Like there’s something holding
Me back; though, my path is clear.
I reach out my hand and
Brush the last breaths of night
As the sun begins to rise
That girl is drowned in the light.
I finally see why
I don’t chase that girl down:
Because the presumptions
Of my family hold me bound.
