Hold Me in Your Arms

Having drained all my oceans of its water
In a state of being known as a drought
With a dry mouth and chapped lips
I still whispered her favorite colors
At night her dreams danced around me
Insomnia became my best friend
Insomnia feared she'd follow me to wonderland
Loving her was like taking one last picture of the sky
Even though you've seen it all your life
In fear, it might rain forever and you'd never see the sun again
Loving her was like finding a puzzle piece
Then to placing it in a puzzle that wasn't its own
I knew we'd never last
But she fit perfectly into my puzzle
I wanted to pretend that just for a moment
For a small fraction of time; that I meant something to her
Pretend that she wouldn't slip through a trap door
That would lead her to someone else's backyard
Where she would meet the beginning of the rainbow
Pretend that she'd follow me to the end instead of searching for the end of the rainbow
Pretend that when I turn around she wasn't in someone else's arms
Reality sets in and I miss her arms around me
