Hurricane

By Annabeth Chase

You know the storm is coming

You've heard all the warnings

You've prepared

You're ready

The windows are boarded up

You have plenty of food

You're ready

The storm hits

And you were right

You were ready

You had enough supplies

You're house weathered it well

And suddenly the storm stops

You go look outside

Peer out the door

And see clear skies

See the storm moving away

You step out your door

Wander down the street

Check to see what else survived the storm

You think the storm has passed

But then you turn around

And you realize that the storm hasn't passed

In fact you're in the eye of the storm

Surrounded

And the worst of it is about to come

You try to run back to your house

But you realize the storm will hit first

You were so ready to weather the storm

But in the fleeting moments of blue skies

You forgot that the worst wasn't passed you yet

And you got swept away in the rain
