I Know What It's Like
By Sanjna Manoj
I know what it's like.
I know what it's like,
To hope, and hope,
That someone would pick up the phone,
Just to hear me rant and mope.
I know what it's like,
To be awake at midnight,
And think,
That it, I am giving up the fight.
I know what it's like,
To have someone to hold my hand,
But who just watches,
While my heart turns into sand.
I know what it's like,
To feel alone,
Surrounded by friends and laughter,
But me, I am akin to stone.
I know what it's like,
To feel an unrelenting ache,
To be unable to stop,
No matter the smiles I fake.
I know what it's like,
To have red cuts,
The pain welcome,
Among the sounds of "I like you.. But"
To cry,
To lie,
To feel nothing.
To pray,
And to say,
Let me feel something.
I know what it's like,
I see no way ahead,
Other than getting up,
Fighting for a new day,
I won't lose, no more tears will be shed.
