I Tried

By Erin Milligan

I tried so hard it almost broke me, I wanted there to be an "us".

I tried so hard it almost broke me, I gave you all my trust.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, all you seen was rust.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, to you I was just dust.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, you broke down my walls.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, you won't return my calls.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, your love for me only falls.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, you treated me like one of your dolls.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, all we were was lies.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, you used up all my tries.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, it always ends in cries.

I tried so hard it almost broke me, we never said our good-byes.

Well, at least I tried.

Author Notes: I wrote this poem with my best friend Makaylee Power. We always have deep conversations at three a.m. and we write a lot. This was our first piece done together and I love how it turned out.
