I'm Sorry

By Rebecca Kathleen

I never meant to wound you so deeply or so permanently

To me they were only words, I didn't see them for the weapons they were

Spoken during a moment of pain and anger

I didn't think it through before they slipped out

I didn't think they'd cut so deep

I know they can't be taken back, the scar will always remain

A black mark on our love that can never to be undone

A mark that killed all the good that came before

And left us wondering where do we go from here

I wish the words "I'm sorry" could soothe away your pain

I wish the words "I'm sorry" could wipe away my shame

Then maybe you would forgive what I never meant to say

Then maybe you would still love me, the way you did before

Author Notes: I welcome constructive criticism
