Less Than Zero

Everybody just called her Zero
Everybody knew her in the neighborhood
She would smile all the while
And was always feeling good
They called her Zero because she finished last
Last in everything that she would do
But she didn’t mind, she was always kind
She was willing to try anything new
When her Mom told Zero to come to dinner
That she had 5 seconds to get to her chair
Zero would sit down after she counted one
But Mom smiled and said, “Oh my Dear”
Then a new kid moved to town
He met Zero and seemed surprised
Why would you let them call you nothing
He shook his head and rolled his eyes
Zero isn’t nothing
She started to explain
Everything starts at Zero
Even the score in a game
Zero is the beginning
A newborn baby has zero teeth
Zero is the amount you owe
When you repay a favor complete
Zero asked the boy-what his name was
The Boy looked at Zero and said, “My name is Less”
He was definitely Less than Zero
