Let His Innocence Be

The moon shines through the clouds
Leaving silver dapples upon his back
His delicate hooves dance lightly
On a feint and shrouded track,
With a distant echo of an angel's prayer
He sends his head up strong and high
Eyes dark and tranquil
He calls back his heartfelt reply,
Like a heavenly whisper on the wind
Into darkness shall it fade
His being will fade with it
And he will rest where he is laid,
May he find eternal peace
His soul forever free
To gallop on through endless fields
Let his innocence be,
But as his deeper lies waiting
May his memory return to me at last
A legacy he will always be
A spirit more than his life passed.
