A Life Without Eye Contact

By mackenzie

A life without eye contact
Is to live in a faceless world

Fluttering between
The brown, the blue, the green
Souls of those who speak
Too flustered to hold on for too long

To look at the ground
Is to look at a grey world
Of concrete and dirt

To hide behind
An averted gaze
And hope you’ve worked
Hard enough to fit in

How can you understand the world
When you can’t look it in the eye?
