Mariage d'Amour

By Mitzi Danielson-Kaslik

I look once more

To see if you looked.

I look away, closing

My eyes, returning

My thoughts to

Mariage d’Amore

Which plays from

The gramophone

Loud and clear as

The dove sings.

I would like to think

That you love me –

That those brief

Moments we shared

Just days ago meant

Something – meant

Something to you.

I think the truth is

It only matters to

Me that you love

Me because believing

It helps me love

Myself.

It gives my poetry

A sense of

Purpose – it helps

The cloying melody

Of life make

Sense and then

To me, you are

All the wonderful

Things like

Benedick, stuffed

With wit and all

Honourable virtues

And promises that

You’ll never marry –

That you’ll die a

Bachelor.

So, then,

Mariage d’Amour,

Let me be gladly,

Horribly in love.
