Merchant

By Andy (Formerly Apemann)

The shop was nothing special to look at. Plain, slightly shabby and in need of cleaning. The hand-painted sign above the door said simply ‘MERCHANT’.

Interest piqued, I entered the place.

There was little to see, only several shelves of plain cardboard boxes of different shapes, sizes and colours. Each had a small printed label on the front.

‘Complain’ said one. ‘Grumble’ said another. ‘Carp’ another box declared. Other’s had words like ‘Gripe, Whinge, Beef, Moan, Bellyache’ and so on.

Puzzled, I asked the smirking shopkeeper “What is this place?”

“Why, I’m a whine merchant. Isn’t it obvious?” he laughed.

Author Notes: Another of my micro-fiction compositions.
