Moods- Part 10

Finn’s pov.

Zeke and I got into his car and we drove away.

We were talking about the weather, how it had been raining for most of the week but suddenly just stopped on Thursday. The sky was clear yesterday and today there were no rain clouds in sight. We had the windows down, enjoying the warm rays of sun and the blowing wind. I wished this moment would last forever.

But of course, all good things come to an end.

It was mid-conversation when it happened. There was loud honking and the distinct smell of gasoline.

It all happened so fast.

The truck was going way past the speed limit. So when it rammed into us I barely had enough time to react. My power doesn’t really help stop situations like this but I knew I had to keep us both alive. I pressed my hand against Zeke’s chest, letting my healing power flow through me into him, and prayed I would be able to help him if I became unconscious.

The impact of the truck sent us flying down the highway, and when we crashed into the road it was all I could do not pass out right then and there. I forced my power to move quicker to Zeke. He had already lost consciousness and I knew I would soon be next. I could feel myself getting weaker as I tried to make sure Zeke would survive this.

When all my power had been used, I let my body go limp as my vision started to blur.

We never made it to Icey's, I thought to myself. I chuckled and instantly regretted it, pain stabbing my chest as my eyes finally shut.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wake up and realise just how much I had used my power. My whole body aches, reminding me of the past events. I lift my arms in front of me to examine them. Yep, just as I thought, only small cuts and bruises remain on my skin. I notice the IV in my left arm and the hospital gown and look around. A hospital room. It’s pretty plain if I’m being honest, to my right there are a bunch of machines that I ignore, and the door to the hallway. In Front of me there’s a sink and some cabinets, and to the left there's a bathroom, a window looking out at the clear sky, and since there are no trees blocking my view I know I’m on one of the higher floors. On my left there are also two chairs, a small couch, and a small table. One of the chairs is occupied by someone that makes me smile when I see him.

“Hey Leo.” I croak, noticing that the lack of use of my voice has made it hoarse. But it’s still able to wake up a sleeping Leon. When he sees me awake his eyes widen.

“Finn,” he says surprised, “you’re awake.” Most people wouldn’t know it by his voice or facial features, but I know he’s happy to see me.

“Yep.” I say my voice still doesn't sound like usual. “Do you think you could get me some water?” I ask.

“Oh right, of course.” He says quickly getting up and walking to the door. “I’ll be right back.” I smile at him and he leaves.

Now that I’m alone, I can gather my thoughts. First thing’s first, I needed to know if Zeke was alright. If I had managed to save him. I knew I would be fine since my power flowed through me. After it had recharged it went straight to healing me. First the inside, such as any broken bones or punctured organs. Then it went onto the outside, healing my skin, leaving no trace that I had ever been in any accident. It hadn’t finished fixing all my cuts but I stop it from healing me any more. I didn’t know what condition I was in when I came into the hospital, but I knew if I healed myself completely people would definitely be suspicious. I look around the room again, the walls are a nice light blue with bright white horizontal stripes. I turn to face the machines and immediately become lost. I know one of them is a heart monitor, but I’m confused about what the others are.

When Leon comes back I’m still staring at the machines. When I see he’s not alone I break into a big smile. Sage was entering the room, and when she sees me, she runs over and hugs me so tightly I can’t breathe. But I don’t care, I wrap my aching arms around her. We stay embraced like this for what seems like years. When I think I might pass out again I let go of her, and she releases me from her grasp.

That’s when I notice just how hard this has been for her. I don’t know how long I’ve been out but it seemed like it affected her and Leo way more than me. Sage is smiling but I see the dark circles around her eyes and my smile falters. I know she hadn’t slept here. Her power is basically shapeshifting, but only into people. Sage isn’t able to sleep in public places because she sometimes shifts into other people in her sleep and there’s no telling what people would do if they knew she had powers. Of course there are a bunch of people hiding their own powers, but just cause they have them doesn’t mean they’re willing to help others with powers. I don’t know how long Sage has gone without sleeping, but it can’t be healthy. I can tell the tiredness is overwhelming her and she might just pass out right now so I know I have to do something.

“You look like hell.” I say grinning, my voice sounding a little more normal. She rolls her eyes.

“I feel like hell too.” She says walking over to the chairs. She drags one closer to my bed and collapses into it. Leon gives me a cup of water and I take it. I drink it all and drop the cup to the floor. I groan seeing how weak I am. Leon picks up the paper cup and throws it into the trash can next to the cabinets.

“Thanks.” I say and he nods. A nurse enters the room and smiles at me. She walks over to the machines and writes something down on a clipboard she’s holding. She then turns to me and introduces herself as Elena. We talk about what happened and she tells me I had been asleep for 2 weeks, I know that’s why my body aches from using so much power. I had been healing myself for 2 whole weeks without even knowing it. Elena tells me I had made a pretty amazing recovery and I freeze. She, on the other hand, continues and says it was pretty lucky that Zeke and I had both survived the crash. Hearing that, hope soars through me, Zeke had made it. After she’s finished, she leaves my room. I turn to Sage and Leon, who was also sitting in a chair next to my bed.

“How’s Zeke?” I ask. They share a look between each other and then turn to face me.

“He’s still asleep.” Sage says, “And he looks even worse than me.” She’s serious when she says it, she doesn’t smile or even show emotion other than sadness and guilt. The only reason I can tell how she’s feeling is because she’s too exhausted to hide it.

I don’t say anything though, I don’t crack any jokes cause the truth is I’m also exhausted. I’m tired and I’m worried and I’m done with pretending everything is fine. Because it’s not.

I try to hide it all, but I can’t when it comes to Zeke. I try to bury my emotions deep down so people don’t have to worry about me. But Zeke breaks me. I can’t hide anything when I’m worried about him.

“I need to see him.” I say, staring at my hands.

“Are you sure you’re even able to walk?” Sage asks, looking at me skeptically.

“Yes.” I say, I don’t even hesitate but she sees right through me and shakes her head. Then she knocks on the wall behind me.

“He’s in there.” She tells me. I turn my head and look at the wall she had knocked on.

Zeke was in the room right next to mine.
