My Greatest Fear

Fear is an illusion
Fear is a mindset
Fear is fake
Fear is temporary
Fear tricks me into thinking that
I will never be good enough
That despite my effort, I will fail;
Fear is an illusion
No matter the situation
No matter the odds
Somehow I already know the ending;
Fear is a mindset
I can feel it’s hold on my throat
Paralyzing me where I stand
Awakening a phantom monster in my chest;
Fear is fake
It seizes me for just a moment before
releasing its hold; my lungs gasping
for air that was there all along;
Fear is temporary
