Not Enough

There was a phrase I was always told
Something onto which I could hold
In every endevour no matter how tough
Just do your best, that is enough

That seems to makes sense; what more can you do?
It wouldn't be fair to excpect more from you
A reasonable argument, but there's one slight error
Life has no obligation to be fair

There was a phrase they always said
But it turns out that I was mislead
I quickly noticed that life plays rough
So I did my best, but it wasn't enough
