Superheros and Villains- Part Ten

(Eden's/ Six years later)

Carter lays on the couch, James asleep curled up next to him. I smile at him,"where is she?" I ask quietly, so as not to disturb James. 'Office,' he mouths back and closes his eyes. I walk down the hall of our shared house; James, Carter, Scarrlett, and I all moved in together after college. Scarrlett is now a website developer and video game designer, James is a nurse studying to be a doctor, Carter is a vet who owes his own vetenarian clinic, and I am a lawyer who just beacame partner.

Scarrlett's back is to the door, her head phones in, and her face pulled into a puzzle of concentration. I move slowly towards her and gently pull a headphone out of her ear. "Hello, love." She says, leaning her head back so I can peck her lips. I oblige and wrap my arms around her.

She smiles at me," how is the case?" I groan and take a seat in her lap. She wraps her arms around my waist and presses kisses to my neck. "I know he is innocent, I just cannot prove it." She smiles against my neck,"I know you will figure it out. You are so smart." I smile,"thank you. How was your day?" She smiles,"productive."

I nod,"good. What about James and Carter?" she laughs,"James delivered a baby today and Carter saved two dogs and a bird." I smile,"they are brilliant." She nods.

"Lets go to bed," I say and get up. She nods, we walk to our bedroom, and change into night clothes. I cuddle against her and melt into her. She smells the same as she did that first night; sage and rose, soft skin and warm, and lips pressed to my temple.

"I love you." She says against my ear. I melt even more into her. "I love you to, Scarr." She sighs and I laugh, knowing she loves when I call her that. My eyelids drag down and I close my eyes, falling asleep with a smile on my face and relishing in the feeling of happiness and safety
