Teach Your Children Well

By Anthony E

He sat at the park well after dark

Moving his rook and his knight

A brown paper bag started to sag

With no place to go for the night

.

His long overcoat kept himself warm

The Windy City true to its name

Holes in his shoes feeling the blues

He smiles and puts no one to blame

.

Lost his job to the younger mob

Injured, received no sympathy

His severance pay was somehow delayed

Where's the planet's empathy?

.

Yet the blue marble keeps spinning

Most losing, few winning

Finding out and getting out, surreal

He doesn't think of panning, future is waning

Life isn't a deal or no deal

.

Why so many suffer, the rich need a buffer

Turn a blind eye to a visual reality

Skin color differs, the hands become stiffer

There's a difference between greedy and needy

.

The world has created a monster

And left it to learn, it learns all on its own

A Frankenstein creature, a his and a her

Unjust and disgust to the bone

..

Humankind is anything but kind

Locked doors and eight foot high fences

Breathe deep in your mind, hit the rewind

And dig yourself from selfish trenches

.

Serve a soup kitchen, find what is missing

Teach your children and teach them well

Find life's passion teach them compassion

It's not too late to break from this Hell.

.

What is our plan, to help our fellow man

To treat with sweet sincerity

Life is not chess, it's a state of duress

And man has nothing but his dignity

.

So if you can help, support a lost cause

Hear the calling and answer the bell

You will see in the end, if you listen my friend

Your conscience will benefit as well.
