That Caterpillar Is No Butterfly
By Anthony E
The caterpillars moved slowly
Slowly down the tree
There were three of us Greeny, Fuzzy, and Me
We were the best of friends
We hoped to change into butterflies
Greeny woke up with brand new wings
Fuzzy and I saw her zoom to the skies.
A day later Fuzzy sprouted wings.
But there were no wings for me
I wished and dreamed for wings
Like a butterfly, a bird, or a bumble bee.
Greeny and Fuzzy tried to lift me in the air.
Hoping my wings would grow
A bunch of birds tried to eat me
Especially a Big Old Crow
I wanted to be a butterfly.
I went near the lake.
The water was like a mirror
And for caterpillars sake
I saw my reflection.
On a bright Sunday morn
I was not a caterpillar after all
I was a skinny red worm
Greeny and Fuzzy -hugged me tight
They were so very kind
They said they knew I was a worm
That they knew all the time
Fuzzy said, "We don't care if you are a worm
Or a butterfly on the go"
We are happy that you are our friend
and glad that you are not a Big Old Crow.
