That Kid Ate a Fly

By Anthony E

Sunny and not a cloud in the sky

At the park and heard a baby cry

Then I saw a kid from the corner of my eye

I saw, I saw- That Kid Ate a Fly

The kid was sitting on a bench nearby

He had a basketball at his side

And in one hand he held a little black fly

He brought the fly up to his eye

He had a smile that was real sly

And just when a lady passed on by

Gone from his fingers in the blink of an eye

Was the fly he was holding by

He must have eaten that little black fly

It was gone- it disappeared by and by

Although I didn’t see it from my eye

I know, I know, That Kid Ate a Fly

The kid looked at me and said Hi

I looked at him and asked him why

Why could he, why did he, eat that fly

He looked back at me looking sly

Then he smiled and started to sigh

He said that he did catch that fly

It was smaller than a French fry

And it looked tasty, me oh my

So you did, you did eat that little black fly

The kid said I was hungry I must confide

The fly looked delicious flying by

And so I caught it in the blink of an eye

The kid said he had never ever eaten a fly

And for once he’ thought he would give a try

So with the little black fly standing by

He brought it up to the corner of his eye

He opened his mouth really wide

He picked and flicked the fly inside

But the fly hit his lip and bounced really high

And the little black fly began to fly and fly

In the end I met a friend who was sitting by

This friend was the kid that didn’t eat that fly
