The Dream of An Artist

By Mitzi Danielson-Kaslik

I wonder,

Shall I become a painter or a poet?

Or a writer or a love maker?

For other ‘professions’ make no sense,

To me anymore

I shall never have a career,

The kind that others wish for,

And inform me that I should,

Someday ‘hope’ to ‘achieve’

No,

I shall never become a doctor or a dentist,

Or a teacher or an accountant,

For these professions make no sense,

To me anymore

I shall dream and never stop,

Dreaming,

For I shall become what they call,

An Artist,

A thing of no value with the power,

The change the course of empires

And if I was ever to become An Artist,

It would be a lifetime well spent.
