The Flame

By Mitzi Danielson-Kaslik

A candle is alive;

The metal casing

Around the wax

Which glints in

It’s own light

Is like the flesh,

Warm from the

Inner workings.

The pale wax

Itself which

Melts under the

Fire and is

Sculpted by

The heat is

Like the organs

Within - the

Fuel for the

Flame.

The wick is

Like the mind,

Awaiting its own

Ignition by a

Fiery match;

The inspiration.

And then the

White hot

Flame is the

Idea;

The result of

The inspiration;

The soul,

The essence

Of the living.

But what

Happens when

The flame dies

Out?

A new match

Is required.

Trust the match

Will come.
