The ride

The car is going so fast

I put my foot on the break

nothing happens

The hail over head pounds harder

and harder every second

My heart is going to explode

As if it were a toxic bomb

I feel the tears burn my eyes

everything is blurry and muffled

I take the wheel

I see a light

My mind is saying

”Go to it”

But I remember

my life

my friends, my family

I take a breath

I turn away

The hail calms

I see blue sky

and I realize

I’m on my way

to my future
