THE SNOW UNICORN

By hercules

Once upon a time, there was a little girl, called Jessica.

Jessica was very adventurous. She wandered into the woodland and across the fields, surrounding her country home.

One morning in Winter, she woke up to find it snowing. The fields and hedgerows were covered in a blanket of white.

Jessica wanted nothing more, than to go off on one of her adventures.

Unfortunately, her parents never allowed her to when it was snowing. The last thing they wanted, was for her to go and get lost in the woods when the ground was covered in snow.

As Jessica gazed at the falling flakes, an idea came to her.

She was going to build, a snow unicorn.

After breakfast, she went out into the garden and got to work.

The lawn was very large, so there was plenty of snow to make the unicorn with.

Made it she did to.

A whole day it took – a whole day of shovelling, moulding and carving with a small lunchbreak in between.

The result, was a life-size snow unicorn.

Her parents were most impressed.

When Jessica got into bed that night, she dropped off right away. Building the unicorn had tired her right out.

For hour after hour she slept, until midnight came.

For some unknown reason, the snow unicorn came into Jessica’s thoughts.

She got out of bed, crept to the window, opened the curtains and stared down at the unicorn.

As she did so, something astonishing happened.

The unicorn came to life. It turned its head up and gazed straight at her.

Jessica’s eyes widened in amazement.

She couldn’t believe it.

Then a very strange feeling came over her – a feeling that the unicorn was calling to her.

Impossible!

Or was it?

There was only one way to find out.

Jessica got dressed, crept out of her room and quietly went down the stairs.

She then put her coat and boots on, went outside and walked slowly towards the unicorn.

What happened next, came as an even bigger surprise.

The unicorn stared at Jessica and knelt down before her.

It then beckoned her to get on its back, which she did.

At once!

Then something totally amazing happened.

The unicorn took to the air and flew away with Jessica on its back.

It was like living in a dream to Jessica.

There she was, flying high over the country, on the back of the snow unicorn.

The flight was no short one. It turned out to be very long in fact.

Very long!

The unicorn carried Jessica right over land and sea, sea and land, going forever North.

Eventually, it touched down on the edge of a forest, right up in the Arctic regions.

Far beyond, was the stunning display of the Northern Lights.

The unicorn carried Jessica through the forest for some distance, before reaching a wide, open clearing.

The sight, which awaited, blew Jessica’s mind away.

Within the clearing, there were hundreds of Elemental beings, including elves, nymphs, dwarves, fairies and more unicorns. There was even a medium sized dragon.

The astonishing thing, was that they were made of snow. Every single one of them, was a living work of art.

When the Elementals saw Jessica and her unicorn, they parted – revealing another wonderful sight.

Right in the centre of the clearing, was none other, than Pan.

Jessica was delighted.

She ran up to Pan, who gave her a jolly great big hug.

Then something truly magical happened.

Pan began to play his pipes.

As he did so, the Elementals began to dance about joyfully.

Pan himself joined in.

So did Jessica.

O what a wonderful experience it was for Jessica. Dancing round and round with the Elementals.

When the entertainment finished, it was time for her to go home.

She gave Pan another big hug, mounted her unicorn and took to the air.

The unicorn carried Jessica back home and landed in the garden.

Jessica dismounted the unicorn and went indoors.

She then went straight to bed and fell into a deep,

restful sleep.

While sleeping, she had a happy dream about her wonderful adventure.

The following morning it had stopped snowing.

The Sun was gradually starting to melt the white blanket, which covered the land.

As for the unicorn, it was no more than a pile of snow.

Jessica was very sad.

She went outside and stared at the pile of snow.

The memory of her adventure remained.

But no more, was the snow unicorn.
