The Thales Theory (Η θεωρία του Θαλή)

-From the Meletic Scrolls.

The material world is a place where everything transparent is embodied by a singular, fundamental substance of matter. It is from this materialising world that we perceive the intrinsic core of physicality, the tangible essence of existence. What we then discover is that there is a truth, which is a silent, yet present force reminding us of its presence. This truth is what we recognise as being (To Ένa) the One.

From this realisation, we engage in the natural process of observation, knowledge and logic to explain the surrounding cosmos, nature and reality. In the school of Meleticism, this line of enquiry is referred to as the Thales Theory, not to be mistaken for the Thales Theorem, which pertains strictly to the realm of geometry. The Thales Theory is a philosophical examination of the true nature of universal existence, exploring the fundamental order that governs all that is. It is a theory that seeks to explain the relative principles of existence, both in their physical and metaphysical dimensions.

When we analyse the conceptual process behind this theory, we begin to see the clear distinction between the utility of the senses and the emergence of consciousness. The human mind possesses a depth that allows us to explore reality far beyond than what is merely perceptible. There is an actuality beyond our immediate sensory experiences, an underlying fabric of existence that transcends physicality.

Our perceptions, though they act as the primary mediators of our reality are merely reflections of deeper truths. The phenomena we observe are often in parallel with our conscious recognition of them, but there is a certain gap between perception and true understanding. The Thales Theory posits that our reality is composed of both the physical and the metaphysical, existing in a harmonious sequence that gives rise to our conscious experiences.

This sequence reveals a logical structure in the universe, a pattern that governs the relationships between all things. Thus, the nature of reality is neither purely material nor purely conceptual, but a unique fusion of both states that require reasoning, contemplation and insight to fully comprehend this nature.

Naturally, within this process of understanding, we encounter the inevitable force of change. Change in itself is an integral aspect of existence. It is not an anomaly; instead, it is a fundamental characteristic of reality. Through ideas, reason and philosophical contemplation, we develop a clearer perception of the Logos, which is the order of the cosmos and the Nous, which is the fulfilment of intellectual realisation of material existence.

By applying logic, we are able to examine not only the visible, tangible aspects of the material world, but the unseen forces also that shape its genuine existence. It is through this intellectual journey that we begin to realise purpose. A purpose that is neither imposed nor dictated by any external deity, for it emerges from the internal structure of existence itself.

Philosophical enquiry is therefore, the natural expression of our thoughts, and the phenomena we perceive are not supernatural in origin. There is a rational, comprehensible order underlying everything. The cosmos does not operate in chaos. It follows principles that can be studied, understood and even anticipated.

Science in its pursuit of empirical truth, attempts to explain the observable mechanics of reality. It is limited to what can be measured and tested. There are aspects of existence, particularly those related to meaning, consciousness and metaphysical order that cannot be fully explicated by science alone. Philosophy in contrast, seeks to understand not only what exists, but why it exists also. It does not simply attest to realism; it embraces both the physical and metaphysical realms, as complementary aspects of one unified existence.

At the core of the Thales Theory is the contemplation of a singular principle that underlies all existential things. This principle unites the cosmos, nature and reality into one interconnected whole. To recognise this principle is to accept the presence of To Ena, which is the ultimate foundation of existence.

Through careful study and introspection, we realise that the world functions according to the natural laws of the cosmos, which in turn operate in harmony with the order of the Logos. To Ena reveals itself not as a deity or a being, but as an essential force, which is the unification of time, space and reality into a singular structure.

Thus, when we observe and conceive that which we construe as tangible, we are engaging with a reality that is both substantial in form and meaningful in essence. We often forget that the observable world can be examined not only through quantifiable means, but through qualitative and philosophical reflection as well. Both approaches offer insight. It is their combination that brings about a deeper comprehension of existence.

Forms in their nature can be universal or particular. They can be timeless, yet subject to change. What we perceive as form may evolve, but its original essence remains intact. This realisation implies that whilst change is inevitable, the underlying principles that govern existence are constant.

The concept of contingency is also fundamental in understanding reality. Possibilities are bound by the laws of the cosmos, yet they unfold in ways that allow for agency and transformation. The greatest agency in the cosmos is To Ena, but human agency, which is our ability to reason, create and act is equally important. When we discern the power within ourselves, we begin to see the applicability of knowledge to human nature and action.

The word that best describes the present reality is unification. The actual nature of our existence is that it is fundamentally one. Forms may change, but the essence of being remains immutable.

To imagine a cosmos devoid of stars, planets or celestial bodies is to imagine a world reduced to an encompassing void. A space absent of order and meaning. The absence of To Ena would render the cosmos incomplete, for without the principle of unity, there could be no multiplicity. Existence itself would lack the foundation upon which reality unfolds.

To Ena is immeasurable, but the world we inhabit is not. It is through our exploration of the mind that we begin to perceive deeper truths about the material world. These truths are not tied to any single god or creator, nor are they dependent on religious belief. Instead, they arise from the essential fabric of reality, accessible through introspection, contemplation and reason.

We as humans are the innovators of creation, shaping our reality through knowledge and action. To Ena is not a figure to be worshipped. It is a principle to be understood, as being the ultimate reality that unites all things.

In embracing the Thales Theory, we do not seek supernatural explanations, nor do we limit ourselves to empirical observation alone. Instead, we engage with existence completely, perceiving the interconnection between logic, reason, perception and consciousness. We strive not merely to observe reality, but to understand and participate in its unfolding process.

By acknowledging To Ena, we align ourselves with the natural order of the cosmos. Through wisdom, we cultivate awareness. Through awareness, we attain clarity, and through clarity, we discover the true nature of existence.

Thus, the journey of philosophical discovery is not one of passive observation. It is an active engagement with the truth. It is a truth that is neither distant nor abstract, but present within the fundamental essence of reality itself.
