These Days

By Mitzi Danielson-Kaslik

I wonder if I will ever truly herald

These days as the best days of

My life, as I am told I will,

I wonder if I will ever look back

At this now with fond gaze

Not unfeeling glare, as I know

I will.

I wonder if I will ever learn

The lessons I was taught in

These days; about Love;

About Hate and mostly about

What it means to be a person.

I wonder if I ever believed

The Lies they told me; never

Love and never know anything

So strong in your life as

Hate, oh, above all, never ever

Be your own person.

Well, if I ever did, I

Do not now. Now I

Believe in everything

They told me wasn’t

Real; I know Love and

Yes, I know hate and

Above all, I am now

Myself and I am the

Me I always wanted to

Be

Yes, I shall not miss these days of old.
