TIMES LONG FORGOTTEN

TIMES LONG FORGOTTEN
Written and narrated by Ben Brown.
The students in this play are at the end of their final year of senior high school. They tell the story of Atlantis and the Atlanteans to the rest of the school in assembly time.
Only one scene.
Student1: Stacey
Student2: Hermione
Head teacher: Miss Kendal
Scene: On stage in the assembly hall.
MISS KENDAL
(MISS KENDAL speaks to the audience.)
Quiet everyone. Quiet please. Thank you.
HERMIONE
Well, this is it.
STACEY
It is indeed.
MISS KENDAL
Okay girls, read away.
STACEY
You start.
HERMIONE
(Hermione begins the story.)
In times long forgotten
Before known civilization
Before history recorded
A land there was
In the mighty Atlantic
A wonderful land
The Motherland
Of known civilization
STACEY
It was a land of treasures
A land of riches
A land of gold
A land of crystals
A land of knowledge
A land of civilizations
Unknown to us.
HERMIONE
Advanced the people were
With unimaginable technology
Not known to us
Lost to us
Beyond our understanding
To be rediscovered maybe
To remain undiscovered maybe.
STACEY
Built grand settlements
Built great pyramids
Built fine temples
Built majestic palaces
Palaces for kings
Palaces for queens
The people did.
HERMIONE
Peaceful those times were
Joyful times they were
When in perfect harmony
The people lived
Harmony with each other
Harmony with animals
Harmony with Nature
Living in high spirits.
STACEY
Glorious times they were
Magical times they were
But last forever
They did not
Chaos was to befall
On the land
Dark times lay ahead
Great cataclysms were coming.
HERMIONE
Came the cataclysms did
Came they did
From outer space
From the heavens above
There came asteroids
Asteroids, which rained down
Upon the land.
STACEY
Far and wide
Great earthquakes spread
Mighty volcanoes erupted
Raging fires spread
High mountains crumbled
Cavern systems collapsed
Lakes were swallowed up
Ash rained down
Cities fell to ruin
Whole civilizations perished
And last of all
The waves rolled in
And submerged the land.
HERMIONE
Dark times they were
Very dark times
But not all was lost
For there were survivors
Who managed to escape
From their homeland
Before it sank
Beneath the waves.
STACEY
The survivors, built ships
And went to sea
To the north
To the south
To the east
To the west
To reach other lands.
HERMIONE
They reached other lands
Far and wide
Across the world
To the north
To the south
To the east
To the west
And started over again.
STACEY
They sowed the seeds
Of ancient civilizations
We know of so well
The Egyptians
The Greeks
The Incas
The Aztecs
The Mayans
And many others
Of the Old World.
HERMIONE
They wrote their history
On gold tablets
On chamber walls
On pieces of parchment
In ancient languages
Languages unknown
To us today.
STACEY
They built great megaliths
Great mega structures
Of the Old World
We know of so well
They built the pyramids
They built Machu Picchu
They built the Sphinx
They built Angor Watt
They built the temples.
HERMIONE
So life flourished
For the survivors
On other lands
But they could not return
To their homeland
To the Motherland
Now beneath the waves
They could not return
To the lost Atlantis.
STACEY
The end.
MISS KENDAL
Well done girls.
THE END
Author Notes: This is the first play I've ever written. I'm already writing a second one.
