To Live Eternally

By Mitzi Danielson-Kaslik

A friend of mine said to me,

That she would like to live eternally,

In summer time,

In warmth and in the light,

Where the sun would never stop shining,

And happiness would last forever and never fade,

Nothing would ever fade in summer time,

Not life or love or wonder,

But all things must come to an end,

Even life and love and wonder,

So I said to her that I would live,

Eternally in autumn,

With the harvest and leaves,

Where everything fades to return in spring.
