Trees...All Things Made New

Trees
Noble trees, you had a small beginning,
You and I both; but with the years, so many
And kind and prosperous, we have grown old,
I older than all of you, as it now seems;
But you are trees, all with massive trunks
And spreading branches loaded with green, now full
Of glowing summer foliage. My bloom
Of youth is long gone by; my autumn days
Dwindling toward winter; but with peace, and hope
That falling leaves bring ripeness, and God’s word:
“See, now, that I am making all things new!”
Author Notes: At age 104, Don Fletcher continues to write short stories, prose pieces and lyric poetry.
