Worse Days Still to Come

By Anthony E

I was murdered today

A stray bullet was all it took

Driving home the Chicago Expressway

Windshield to brain, no second look

.

Gang violence, defiance, a loaded gun

The bullet kept going

Daughter behind me with air buds on

No possible way of knowing

.

Paramedics come but now it's too late

Coffin makers profit

Is this reality really our fate

Can anything stop it

.

Bail not set high enough

Criminals repeat their crimes

Is the cost really high enough

Innocents conquered every time

.

Sad that so many don't have to die

Sadder that nothing is done

Blood stains and tears both run dry

Knowing worse days are still to come
