The photograph is as faded and wrinkled as she is: three strapping, handsome men – her men - in their uniforms, smiling confidently. Her husband and two teenage sons. She recalls the day she captured the moment with her new camera. The camera, like her men, is long gone.
Alongside other wives and mothers in 1914 she waved and cheered as her husband and her sons went off to fight for freedom and liberty with thousands of others just like them.
None of her men saw Christmas that year.
She kisses each image lovingly and allows her tears to fall freely.
