We talked for a while. After I pulled her out of the abyss, I mean. She was really nice. She wasn't at all like that girl had said. She asked me about the abyss, how it was created, and stuff like that. I didn't have many answers for her. Then she began to ask about things I did have answers to.
It was our free period and we were outside at a picnic table that she had sat me down at. The wind blew and it made her blonde hair dance in the Sun. There were tables just like ours surrounding us, but the people at them didn't pay too much attention to us. They were most likely whispering about how Abigail had reappeared just as suddenly as she had disappeared.
"Earlier, you said that being stuck in there for less than a week was like some kind of accomplishment," she says, her voice in some sort of interrogation mode. "What did you mean by that? Have you ever been stuck in that void? How long were you in there?"
"Okay, slow down. You're starting to sound like me," I say, trying to change the subject. I never was very good at directing attention off of me, though.
"Just answer," she interrupts.
"Alright," I tell her. "I have been stuck in there before. Actually, I've been stuck in there several times. I think of it as some kind of other realm where you get caught up in your thoughts. You can't do very much in there and your thoughts can control you."
She sucks in her breath and says, "That's why all those memories popped up."
"Exactly!" I say, a bit too loud. Some of the other kids turn to look over at me and I try to hide myself from their peering eyes.
"Oh, get up!" She grabs my arm and pulls me up from across the table, where she was sitting. "Just ignore them. Now, what's the longest you've ever been in there?"
I lower my head and refuse to answer.
"Axel?" Her voice is pleading with me. She wants answers and I have them.
With a quiet voice, I answer, "Two months."
"That's insane!" she explodes. "You can't be forced to live inside your head for two whole months!" She jumps up and begins to pack up her things. She freezes when she's finished. She stares me straight in the face and says, "This meeting isn't over. Meet me at the front of the school after it's let out. Tell your parents that you'll be home late because you'll be coming with me." She gives an evil smile and I have to keep myself from laughing at it.
The bell rings, signaling that our break is over. She gives a hmph after noticing the smile I was trying to hide. Then she struts away, her bouncy hair following close behind. I let a snort escape my mouth at how sassy she could be. There was no doubt about it, she was a prissy girl.
Now, all that I needed to do was get my hands on that shadow.
Author Notes: I hope you enjoyed it and I hope that you will give me some advice on how I can improve my writing. I think I've been getting better, but there's always room for improvement!
As always, have a great day and go to sleep if you're reading this at night!
