Jack and The Box
Matt DeckerLadies and gents
You don't know Jack.
Hence I wax poetic
To remedy that.
Jack has a knack
For following the pack.
This fool dives in the pool
To swim with the rules.
He doesn't judge it lame
To remain with the same.
He has no concept or clue
Of the power in the new.
He becomes pained
Whilst thinking of change.
If you wish to make him jittery
Simply do something differently.
He isn't very bold, so it's told
So he tightly clings to the old.
He doesn't bother finding or fixing
What is not broke or missing.
Jack thinks inside the box.
He lives within it, too --
From his daily choice of socks
To his evenings with his boo.
His house, his office, even his car
Really, glorified boxes they are.
But let us not sneer and jeer.
For who among us isn't also in there?
Like Jack, we tend to backtrack
Toward usual ways, days, facts and acts.
Indeed it takes a lot
To rock the orthodox.
But let's bid farewell to Jack
And climb out of the box.
