The stories they told, I loved to believe,
I listened and longed for the tales that they'd weave.
They took me in and made me feel wanted.
Little did I know, I'd leave feeling haunted.
They told me if I followed them, I'd always belong.
If only I'd known that they were so very wrong.
I was shown how to act, and how to dress.
I had to be perfect if I wanted to impress.
When I did something they liked, they'd spoil me rotten.
But when I refused, I'd be locked up and forgotten.
They listened to me and helped me when I was feeling down.
With all the lies that they've told me, you'd think I would drown.
They protected me, I was always safe and sound.
They wanted to protect their precious secret, so I was kept bound.
They taught me what love is. So I gave all of mine to them, and they gave their's to me.
I gave them all that I had, and they made me a joke. Still I can't seem to leave them, I'll never be free.
The stories they told, I foolishly believed.
I no longer trust people, I'm done being naive.
