My Love for You: Chapter Nine

"Alista? Alista are you okay?" a voice asks and my eyes pop open.

"B-Brett..?" I stutter and lean to rest my head against his chest.

"I'm here, it's okay," he mumbles and kisses my forehead.

I hear footsteps.

"Alista! Are you o-" Cody cuts off when he notices me wrapped in Brett's arms.

"What the hell?" he shouts, and I flinch.

"Cody, meet Brett." I say and Cody's eyes glaze over with rage.

"I'm sorry, who?" he asks directly at me, and fear courses through my veins.

"Brett. Y'know, Ina's dad." I say firmly and he stalks towards us.

"That is no way to talk to me, bitch!" he snarls and a whimper escapes my lips.

I feel movement and the next thing I know, I'm being shielded from Cody's view by Brett.

"Back the fuck up," Brett says calmly, but I know he's losing his temper.
