Only Me

She watches me from the end of the hallway
She follows me around the house, again
Ignore her as she tugs on my sleeve
She hates the room in the back of the house
She says there is someone waiting for her
She warns me not to go inside and she refuses to follow me in
I know she only wants to protect me but she will always be 7 years old and I will continue to age
I always end up crying in that room
(I wasn't here when it happened)
(She can see something reaching to grab me)
Fortunately, I hear a knock at the door
It's the one from the many pictures, he did this to her
I open the door but he's vanished, a letter sits on the doorstep
(I guess his mail is still sent here)
(I throw it anyway as always)

She always grabs it from the trash a puts it in a pile of his stuff
She is so scared, that if he came looking for them and saw them in the trash, he'd hurt her for dirtying them
(I wish she'd be stronger)
I can't blame her though
I was only 7 when it happened
