People Are Like Stars

people are like stars

each unique

all lightyears away from lonely earth

some stars are dim

shining steady in the sky

but often overlooked

some stars are hot

pretty to look at

but burn anything that gets to close

some stars are bright

big and eye catching

they are the stars that the other stars dream of being

some of those stars are so far from reality that they appear to be shining

but really they are dead

burned out

done

but no one notices because their light still is shining

they are still beautiful and bright

glowing with an inviting light

but it's all a show

because behind the glow

nothing is there
