Shadows
Matt Decker"I perceive your form.
I see your silhouette.
What's the time of morn?
I'm not fully awake yet.
Who are you?
What are you?
And why do you
Stand by my bed?
Somehow it seems
My bedroom scene
Is obscured behind a screen.
I see more
Than one of you.
I see four.
I wonder how
You entered here -
Through what door?
These thoughts inside remain
For I'm too scared to talk.
I would surely scream
If not for the shock.
I know the cosmos is teeming
With a host of ghostly beings.
Still I'm not believing
What's standing over me
Who it is I'm seeing.
What manner of creatures
Have no definable features -
Only shadowy outlines of darkness?
Oh how I hope you are harmless!
It would be easy to assume
That you have come to my room
With evil intentions of doom.
Else why are you dark as the night
Lacking in any visible light?"
* * *
As I ponder and wonder
What will be next
Something suddenly happens
I could never expect.
I feel that I'm rapidly falling
As if into a vortex.
Am I descending into Hell?
Fearfully I ask myself.
I feel deep regret
For my many human sins
While hearing a forceful sound
Akin to a violent rushing wind.
Falling and falling
The intensity doesn't slack.
It feels like a million needles
Relentlessly are pricking my back.
Try tho' I might
It's difficult to explain
But it's as if I've left
This thing named the earthly plane.
When this is over
Where will I be?
What will I see?
What will be waiting for me?
Although this experience
Is factual and real
I cannot recall
The end of the ordeal.
Did the "shadow beings"
Escort me through a warp of Time?
Just one of the burning questions
Aflame in my mind.
For what it's worth
(And it's your right to scoff)
Something chronologically with me
Has ever since seemed a little off.
